Gainesville City Commission: New office openings
(WCJB) – GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A meeting of the Gainesville city commissioners is taking place right now.
A charter amendment regarding vacancies in the office is one of the items on the agenda.
There are two possible ways for filling the vacancies.
The rest of the members will vote on who should be the replacement if “less than six months remain” in the unfilled term or until the next normal election.
A special election can be held if “more than six months remain” in the unfulfilled term and no general election is scheduled within six months.
A special election must be held within sixty ( 60 ) days of the vacancy occurring.
